Another visit to the rookery

Chicks are not out yet. It seems that parents are still working on their nests.

Still carrying branches to build its nest, this heron is a little late as most others have already completed the task.

A colony of grey herons decided to nest along Sungei Tampines, within the Pasir Ris Park. Currently, some are in the process of building their nests and others seem to be incubating their eggs. We can see between 20 to 30 nests and plenty of busy birds. Follow up visit is to be planned, to meet the chicks and observe the parents bringing food back to them.

Back at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve for some refreshing walk in the mangroves. All migratory birds have taken their flights back North and we are left with the resident population. It is still a good opportunity to dust off the long lens and get some practice...

A lot of action... but to catch it, lots of patience is needed, + the occasional sun burn...

While many photographers were busy at the Singapore air show, tide was low at Khatib Bongsu and the local birds were performing as well. Here was a demonstration of the use of the rear flaps and landing on narrow airstrip by a grey heron.

It is the light that makes this picture.
