In a back street just around Bugis Village, a raw of old houses features interesting spiral staircases. I particularly liked the colour combination of this building.

Long-tailed Macaque at Mc Ritchie Reservoir

With this soft light, backlighting was quite attractive, providing some kind of hallow around the silhouette of the monkey.

Here, some degree of backlighting actually improved the picture. The sky was partly covered, giving a diffuse soft light.

Shooting at level as opposed to upward allows some choice of background, therefore bright sky / backlight can be avoided in the photograph.

A troup of long-tailed macaque was feeding on the low branches of a tree. It was a good opportunities to catch a few exposures of the monkeys munching on their favourite leaves.

This lizard was friendly enough to let me change the position of the camera and capture it (on sensor) at a different angle. An advice I read many times from author photographers is "stay with your subject". I try to follow this advice when I can and when the subject agrees to stay with me!

Little frog or toad met along a path at Mc Ritchie Reservoir Park. If anyone knows the name of this particluar species, please be so kind as to leave a message to this post. Thanks in advance!

Update: This is a Four Ridged Toad.

Black Crowned Crane

Black Crowned Crane held captive at the Animal Resort off Jalan Kayu. Interestingly, while they are left free to fly off the site, they do not escape.

Quite a number of old cemeteries can still be found along some of the cycling pathes of Pulau Ubin.

A nice and quiet path from Terap Hut to Venus Drive follows a little stream in the forest.

The Coffee Cup - Another Singapore Icon

While this letterbox is by far not as original as the one pictured on the preceeding post, this image includes another one of Singapore's lesser known icons: the glass cup that is used to serve local kopi and teh.

The Red Letter Box - A Singapore Icon

Most of the older buildings in Singapore still feature a red letterbox as pictured above. On my opinion, this is one of the lesser appreciated icons of the city in the same way as the red phone booths in the UK. I do hope that they will not be all replaced by standard more modern soulless alternatives. The above image was taken in Pulau Ubin.
