Cheng Hoon Teng Temple - Melaka

The largest Taoist temple in Melaka. Built in 1645 by Kapitan Lee Wei King with building materials imported from China, Cheng Hoon Teng served as the main place of worship for the local Hokkien community. In 2003, Cheng Hoon Teng was awarded a UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration.

A' Famosa

The gate of the A Famosa Portuguese fort in Melaka. Originally built in 1511 and renovated by the Dutch in 1670, this gate is one of the oldest European surviving architectural remains in Asia.

Being a popular tourist site, this image had to be taken early morning to avoid the large crowd brought in by the tour buses.

Built in 1521 by the Portuguese, St Paul Church was originally named "Our Lady of the Hill". It acquired its present name from the Dutch, who built a new Lutheran church down the hill. St Paul then became a burial ground.

The owners of traditional houses within Kampung Morten in Melaka receive subsidies to maintain their premises and allow visitors to enter their garden during certain hours of the day.

The family that owns Villa Sentosa (living room pictured above) keeps the door of their house opened to visitors. While not requested, small donations will be accepted.
