Bakong Temple - Cambodia
Bakong was built in the late 9th century by Indravarman I and was dedicated to Shiva. It served as the new capital city, Hariharalaya, central temple. It was the first to be constructed using mainly sand stones. The eight smaller towers surrounding the main complex were built in bricks and are still partly covered by their original plasterwork. The central tower or sanctuary was added in the 12th century under the reign of Suryavarman II.
