Banteay Srei - Cambodia

Located 32km from Siem Reap, Banteay Srei is an exceptional site in many ways. It is the only temple of the Angkor Group that was not commissioned by a King, but by the tutor of a king. It is the sole Angkor construction made out of pink sandstone and it has the finest carvings considered by most as the best of Khmer artisanship.

After visiting other temples of the region, Banteay Srei appears as made for dwarf due to its relatively small size and low door frames.

Due to its appeal, thousands of tourists drop in to view this temple on a daily basis. To avoid the crowd - turning the site pathway into the exit route out of a stadium after a popular soccer match - best is to visit it in the late afternoon as most tour buses pass by in the mornings. The above image required quite some patience and luck...
